The Empire Mine State Historic Park
The Empire mine is the site of the oldest, largest and richest gold mine in California. The mine ran from 1850 to 1956 and its said that well over 80% of the gold still remains to be mined.
The park has numerous original buildings that include the owners cottage, machine shops, and mining offices. Its a very fun and interesting site to explore in beautiful Nevada City, California.
